Seminars offered in Dallas and Houston on Accounting Failures of Enron, WorldCom, and Waste Management. Find out what went wrong with the accounting at Enron, WorldCom, Waste Management and others with this informative seminar. Nationally renown seminar presenter and author, Michael J. Ussery is slated to give a seminar on March 26, 2003 in Houston and April 8, 2003 in Dallas, to local accountants and attorneys on four of the most widely publicized accounting failures of our time. Mr. Ussery's seminar will focus on the accounting mistakes made by the management and auditors of Enron, Waste Management, Sunbeam and WorldCom.
The cost of each of these accounting failures was significant. The accounting failure of Sunbeam ultimately forced a corporate icon to seek bankruptcy protection, the accounting failure of Waste Management lead to the waste hauling giant being acquired by a much smaller rival and SEC sanctions against Arthur Andersen and 4 partners. The accounting failure of Enron is currently being investigated by 11 Congressional subcommittees, the SEC, the US Justice Department, the FBI and the US Labor Department and is subject to numerous civil lawsuits. Arthur Andersen was convicted of obstruction of justice and ultimately disbanned because of its involvement in Enron and Waste Management.
Focusing on the accounting and auditing mistakes, the seminar explores each company in depth and thoroughly explains how the companies ran afoul of accounting and auditing requirements that lead to the accounting failure. Case studies are presented that show how similar mistakes can happen in almost every company. Mr. Ussery is currently writing a book that will cover the same topics.
The seminar was developed and is being presented by noted lecturer, Michael Ussery. Mr. Ussery, a Texas CPA, has given over 100 lectures to CPAs around the country on such topics as IPOs, accounting for international operations, complying with SEC accounting and reporting requirements and current accounting topics. He is known for his casual and humorous style and his ability to simplify complex topics. Mr. Ussery brings a unique perspective to this seminar having worked as a senior manager auditor serving a client in the top 5 Fortune 500 list and working as controller and CFO of publicly traded corporations.
The seminar will be presented on March 26, 2003 at the JW Marriott on Westheimer in Houston and on April 8, 2003 at the Westin Hotel, 635 and Coit in Dallas. The seminars are sponsored by the Center for Professional Education. For more information on registration and attendance, call 1-800-544-1114 or visit www.accountingfailures.com.
