Tikanchay Celebrates the Unique Artisan Traditions of Peru While Giving Back to the Artists who Uphold and Continue Them

Easton, CT (PRWEB) November 25, 2007 -- Tikanchay Imports, LLC treats its customers to the extraordinary beauty of Peruvian artisan jewelry through a website that showcases this wearable art at the same time that it helps to directly support the artisan traditions behind it.

Tikanchay imports handcrafted, high quality sterling silver jewelry purchased directly from the silversmiths and artisans in small family "talleres" or workshops during frequent buying trips to Peru.

"We travel the length and breadth of Peru to find artisans who both can appreciate the country's rich native traditions and adapt them to the modern taste," said the company's President and buyer, Elaine Rojas.

Ms. Rojas continues, "Each and every piece tells its own story. It could be a bit of Peruvian history or folklore, a new appreciation of a traditional craft or material or the specific story that is unique to the artisan who made it."

The company's founders are committed not only to celebrating the ancient traditions that inspire the Tikanchay line of handcrafted sterling silver jewelry, but also to providing literal support for the artists themselves. The company regularly provides working capital to the artists it commissions in order to allow them to produce the pieces it needs.

Perhaps even more importantly, Tikanchay's founders have committed to make regular donations directly to the artisan community with whom it works. "Each year, we plan on selecting a different worthy group of artisans to support," Rojas said.

This year, after careful consideration, the company has chosen to support the Cultural Institute of Cusco, which provides training in various artisan traditions to the often very poor residents of the region.

"It was both heartrending and inspiring to see these young mothers arriving at the school with their infants and toddlers in tow," Rojas said. "These are the guardians of traditions that date back centuries and we are moved to encourage their impressive talents and to positively and directly impact the quality of their lives."
