Southampton, NY (PRWEB) November 29, 2007 -- The South Street Gallery of Greenport, NY, is hosting a solo show from Nov. 27 through December 2007 titled Mozart, Monk and Boogie-Woogie by Sibylle-Maria Pfaffenbichler. The strength of the artist is her amazing ability to portray the tremendous energy and movement of her dancers driven by the frenetic music of the time without reducing it to a static image. The dancers are full of life swinging to jazz, doing the Jitterbug, the Boogie-Woogie and early Rock. "She pictures the dancers less as objects moved by the music than as physical manifestation of the music itself." (Eric Ernst, Art Critic)

Pfaffenbichler fell in love with the American Sound growing up in Austria in the 50s and 60s, she fondly remembers listening to rare and treasured broadcastings of songs by Chubby Checker, Fats Domino, Little Richard's "Lucille", Elvis Presley... Her passion was further fueled by living in New York City in the 70's and 80's with the opportunity to go to jazz clubs and the Apollo.

The 60 works in the exhibition consist of oil paintings, large acrylics on handmade paper, gouache silhouettes on vintage classical sheet music, Mozart conducting in pastel on top of digital prints and portraits of musicians. The portraits are mainly focused on Thelonius Monk, but Leadbelly, Billie, Ella and Dizzy. are also in attendance.

South Street Gallery is located in the former Village Hall, 18 South Street, of historic Greenport, an old whaling village on the Great Peconic Bay of Eastern Long Island, NY. Greenport is showcasing a lot of artists who have moved into the neighborhood in recent years.
