Myth-Busting in Termite Treatments Consumers are being misled by companies that are advertising products which are not producing the results which they claim. Such products, while useful for specific localized treatments, are being touted as a complete solution. This is false and misleading to Californians. Sacramento, CA (PRWEB) November 30, 2007 -- Recent advertisements marketing alternative pest control treatment options for whole structure solutions are misleading and irresponsible, according to the Pest Control Operators of California (PCOC), the single largest pest control-related trade association in the state.
"Part of our mission is to promote regulatory compliance amongst our member companies and promote industry standards through unified action as well as consumer advocacy on behalf of the entire pest control industry," said Martyn B. Hopper, Executive Vice-President of PCOC. "We are concerned about the message being delivered to the general public with regard to drywood termite treatment options, and the misleading advertising that is going along with this activity."
When it comes to the eradication of drywood termites, there are many options available. However, just like any variety of products or services, some simply work better than others. In order to better analyze these options, the Department of Consumer Affairs conducted comprehensive, state-funded university field testing and determined that fumigation and whole structure heat applications produce superior results to all other treatment methods tested.
"There are no other current alternative products, inspection techniques, tools, or combination thereof that has been independently tested and confirmed to provide the same level of efficacy as fumigation or whole-structure heat treatment," said Hopper.
To thoroughly understand options regarding termite control, contact a PCOC member company to schedule an inspection. To find a member company in your area visit http://www.pcoc.org. If you have had a treatment done on your property and feel the product or service was misrepresented to you, contact the Department for Consumer Affairs, Structural Pest Control Board, Complaints Division at 800.737.8188 or download a complaint form at http://www.pestorg.ca.gov.
