Citizenship and Morality? A Lecture by Sir Bernard Crick 14th February 2003 5.00  6.30 pm Sir Bernard Crick, author and Chairman of the Government Advisory Committee on Education for Citizenship, has agreed to talk about the relationship of morality to citizenship at St EthelburgaÂs Centre for Reconciliation and Peace in Bishopsgate London EC2. (PRWEB) February 14, 2003 Sir Bernard recently presented the interim report of the Advisory Committee he chairs which advises on the "method, conduct and implementation" of a "life in the United Kingdom" test, and considers how to promote language skills and practical knowledge about Britain. The Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Bill will require UK residents seeking British citizenship to be tested in English, Welsh or Scottish Gaelic to show an understanding of UK society and civic structures and to take a citizenship oath and pledge at a formal ceremony. ÂThe debate has so far focused on what level of English language proficiency should be required before someone can apply for Citizenship. But there is also the issue of Âshared values says Roland Smith, Director of St EthelburgaÂs Centre ÂWe have asked Sir Bernard to discuss what common values we need to share; or should we simply accept, tolerate or celebrate differences in values? Sir Bernard will lead a discussion following his lecture.
