Onlingo Kicks-off Education Pilot Program to Support Language Learning in Schools

Initiative supports U.S. Department of Education Goal to increase multi-lingual proficiency for American students.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) January 15, 2008 -- Onlingo (http://www.Onlingo.com), creator of the unique Triple Dimension Language-Living Approach to language instruction (http://www.Onlingo.com), announced the launch of a pilot program to support in-school language learning programs with a $100K donation of Onlingo materials to St. Matthew's Day School in San Mateo, California.

Onlingo (http://www.Onlingo.com) seeks to improve multi-lingual acquisition at an early school level, in part due to a lapse in multi-lingual competitiveness between American students and their counterparts in other Western countries. "According to the National Language Conference hosted by the U.S. Defense Department, our nation is at a crisis point regarding the severe lag in non-native language proficiency, compared to other industrialized nations," said Andrea Scarnecchia, VP of Product Marketing for Onlingo. "We want to do our part to advance language learning in education because it is not just our business, it's our commitment."

By donating $100,000 of resource materials to St. Matthew's, Onlingo seeks to facilitate student language learning at an early age. "St. Matthew's is extremely excited and grateful for the opportunity provided by Onlingo to extend our language learning program for our students," said Ellison Yufenyuy, Language Professor at St. Matthew's Day School. "Our language classes now feature the Onlingo program which gives us an opportunity to enrich our students' immersion which has been shown to be a very effective method for learning." While students find success with an immersive language-learning method, studies have also shown that language learning benefits the student apart from their newly acquired lingual skills. The process itself enriches students' English language development and provides students with a greater sense of global awareness, confidence and learning strategies that will be useful in many areas of life.

"It is a small first step," said Scarnecchia. "but it's a very important one."
