Meharry Medical College Presents Symposium: 'Conquering Cervical Cancer One Generation at a Time' Meharry Medical College’s Department of Internal Medicine, Center for Women’s Health Research and Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology presents an Interdisciplinary Public Health Symposium “Conquering Cervical Cancer One Generation at a Time”. (PRWEB) January 22, 2008 -- Meharry Medical College's Department of Internal Medicine, Center for Women’s Health Research and Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology presents an Interdisciplinary Public Health Symposium “Conquering Cervical Cancer One Generation at a Time”. The symposium will focus on the risk factors, prevention methods and the lack of treatment for the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). The symposium is divided into two sessions: The Scientific Session and the Community/Plenary Session. The Scientific Session will be moderated by Stephanie B. Coursey Bailey, M.D., Chief Office of Public Health Practice Centers for Disease Control & Prevention. Eileen Dunne, M.D., Epidemiology Surveillance Branch of the CDC will give an “Overview of HPV and Cervical Cancer” and Dr. Dineo Khabele, M.D. director of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology & Women’s Cancer Research Laboratory at Meharry Medical College will lecture on the “Breakthroughs and Barriers in Cervical Cancer”. The Community/Plenary Session will consist of the “HPV & Adolescent Health” lead by Susanne Tropez-Sims, M.D. associate dean, “Cultural Considerations for HPV Prevention in the Primary Care Setting” lead by Gerard ShuTangyie, M.D., medical director, SASH Healthcare, Inc., “HPV Vaccine – A Plague Diverted” lead by Stephanie Bailey, M.D.
