A Rare Look at Early African-American History

A new, 21st century edition of Mott's Sketches: Biographical Sketches and Interesting Anecdotes of Persons of Color is available to the modern reader, shedding new light and insight on the early history of Black Christianity.

Denver, CO and High Point, NC (PRWEB) January 22, 2008 -- A new, 21st century edition of Mott's Sketches: Biographical Sketches and Interesting Anecdotes of Persons of Color is available to the modern reader, shedding new light and insight on the early history of Black Christianity.

Originally compiled by Abigail Mott in 1839, Mott's Sketches: Biographical Sketches and Interesting Anecdotes of Persons of Color is once again available, prepared in a 21st-century edition by author Debbie Barwick.

From the original preface:

The object of this selection is not to set forth the exploits of the warrior, who has drenched fields in blood, destroyed cities by fire, and their inhabitants by famine, who has made the mother a widow, and her children fatherless, and deprived the aged of their comfort and support in declining life. It is not to rehearse the harangues, nor to set forth the eloquence of the man of science, but to encourage virtue and morality in the different classes of society; and by bringing into view the effects which a system of slavery has on the human mind, and the dreadful consequences of that arbitrary power invested in the slave-holder over his fellow being; to show how it hardens the heart and petrifies the feelings…

These heart-wrenching stories and remarkable personal testimonies will forever change your heart and how you look at the world. "Mott's Sketches revealed to me the power of the written word to change hearts and renew minds," Barwick says. "It was the catalyst that made me pursue the written word as a means of sharing God's love and truth. I hope this new edition will shed love, compassion, conviction, sorrow, and forgiveness in the heart of every reader."

Mott's Sketches: Biographical Sketches and Interesting Anecdotes of Persons of Color is available through all major distributors. All proceeds from this edition will benefit the Abigail Mott Foundation for Minority Christian Education, a non-profit fund established with The Christian Foundation of the Triangle (www.cftriangle.org).
