AKM Semiconductor Announces Asynchronous Sample Rate Converter for Digital Audio/Video Equipment New AKM Chip Changes converts digital audio sample rates. Supports 8-96KHz input and outputs 32, 44.1, 48 and 96KHz audio. Bridges MP3, CD, DVD and TV Audio Technologies. (PRWEB) May 19, 2003 San Jose, California (PRWEB) May 19th, 2003 Â Asahi Kasei Microsystems Semiconductor, Inc. (AKM), a leading supplier of audio ICs for professional and consumer markets today introduced the AK4121 Audio Sample-Rate Converter. This asynchronous sample rate converter is targeted at DVD recorders, digital television systems and car Audio/Video applications. When audio is digitally recorded, it is linked to a sample rate. The sample rate for CD players is 44.1KHz, digital televisions are 32KHz or higher, while DVD players have sample rates from 48KHz up to 96KHz. In order to properly mix, process and play back these digital audio signals in home or automotive applications, they must all be converted to the same sample rate. Sample-rate converters like the AK4121 perform this function. The AK4121 takes the digital output from a CD/DVD player, analog-to-digital converter or other digital audio stream and reclocks it to a new sample rate. The converterÂs built-in PLL eliminates the need to provide an external master clock, reducing component count and simplifying design. Systems that tend to suffer from unwanted master-clock radiation also benefit from the AK4121Âs integrated PLL. The AK4121 takes input sample rates from 8KHz to 96KHz and converts this incoming signal to 32, 44.1, 48 or 96KHz sample rates. With a dynamic range of 117 dB and a small package that reduces board space, the AK4121 is ideal for the latest DVD recorder, automotive-standard MOST buss systems, pro audio and digital television designs. Price and Availability Available in an extremely small 24-pin VSOP package, AK4121 engineering samples are available now. The part is priced at $5.40 in 1K quantities. Evaluation boards and samples are available now directly from AKM.
