PSSC Labs Supercomputer Helps NASA Design Next Generation Space Vehicles PSSC Labs Linux-Based Cluster Will Be Used at NASAÂs Langley Research Center (PRWEB) May 23, 2003 LOS ANGELES, CA -- May 22, 2003  As part of an ongoing relationship with NASA, PSSC Labs announced today the completion and delivery of a Linux-based 84-node Intel® Pentium® 4 cluster which will be used at NASAÂs Langley Research Center to ascertain the flight characteristics of next generation space vehicles including the Space Shuttle Orbiter, the Mars Pathfinder and the X-43 Scramjet. This cluster is the latest of several computing projects that PSSC Labs has completed for government agencies. According to NASA Aerospace Engineer, William Kleb, ÂScientists at the Langley Research Center Aero Thermodynamics Branch develop, assesses and optimize aerospace vehicles through ground-based experiments and computational simulation. We use Beowulf-class computing to provide the flexibility and computational power necessary for simulating rarefied and high-energy flow fields. Additional projects that PSSC Labs has completed for governmental agencies include: The ÂThunderhead Cluster, a 268-node Dual Intel® Xeon cluster which is used for massive weather modeling at NASAÂs Goddard Space Flight Center; two dual AMD Athlon clusters for the National Institute of Standards and Technology; and a 24-node dual AMD Athlon cluster for the U.S. NavyÂs Pacific Missile Range. ÂWhen we built the Thunderhead, it was among the top 30 supercomputers in the world and we know that NASA relies on these valuable resources to conduct critical research, said Alex Lesser, Vice President of PSSC Labs. ÂWeÂre thrilled that PSSC Labs Beowulf clusters are now helping them to design the worldÂs most advanced space vehicles. ### About PSSC Labs PSSC Labs provides high performance workstations, servers and Beowulf Supercomputing solutions to the world's most prestigious and demanding organizations.
