A small image that takes only a couple dozen pixels can sometimes have more meaning than a paragraph of text. Due to the nature of imagery perception icons create the strongest associations in human beings.

New technologies and higher resolution rates allow developers to use high-detail true color alpha-blended icons when designing user interfaces. However creating vivid icons becomes an insurmountable task unless we use the right tools.

Automatic filtering options are available. The tool kit of available special effects includes (but is not limited to) aqua (iMac style icons), smart blur, shadow, bevel boss, sharpen, rotate and many others. Importantly, all effects are applied "on the fly", so you can see the results immediately.

The program contains all tools necessary for creating high quality small graphics components - pen, line, rectangle, ellipse, flood-fill, text, replace colors, blur, color picker, photo, polyline and polygon tools, drawing modifiers (such as anti-aliasing, multi-color gradient, transparency, etc.), automatic conversion to 256 colors without

hurting image quality. If you prefer working with Photoshop, you will surely appreciate the built-in plug-in that transfers the image with alpha channel directly without creating any intermediary files.

The program costs $39.95(US). You can download a free trial version from the company's web site. Less powerful AWicons Standard is available for $19.95.
