John Kraft Combines Picasso And Pop

San Francisco based artist/musician believes we all have the ability to create.

John Kraft, a San Francisco based artist and musician, has always been a bit confused. Hes not quite sure if he is a painter who writes and produces music, or a songwriter who paints.

As a painter, Kraft draws inspiration from the works of Picasso, Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat. As a musician, he is inspired by Coldplay, Radiohead and The Beatles. His management company, Primary Interactive, recently launched a new website that showcases both his art and music; www.johnkraft.com.

How Kraft entered the world of art is as curious as the art he creates. Kraft explains, In 1994 I was living in Californias Napa Valley and working as a Mechanical Engineer in San Francisco. One day I was particularly bored and decided to go for a walk. I came upon an art supply store, paused, and then walked inside and purchased $500 in art supplies. I returned home, rolled out an 18 foot length of canvas, and began to paint."

Kraft became obsessed with painting and would often come home from his day job only to stay up through the night creating his large abstract paintings. Krafts preferred medium is acrylic on wood panel. He continues to paint to this day and has had periods of independent study in both Europe and the Far East.

Krafts background as a musician stretches back to 1970, when at the age of 3 he was presented with a Toys R Us drum set. Hes come a long way since then, playing nearly all the instruments on his first three albums in addition to writing and singing all the songs. His first CD, Primary, features members of the Grammy winning group Train, the band that brought the world the mega-hit Drops of Jupiter.

Krafts latest release, All the Right Reasons, is a compilation of his musical efforts over the past ten years, and includes three previously unreleased tracks. Kraft is currently signed with Delusion Records, and his CDs and Paintings/Prints are distributed by Primary Interactive.

When asked whether he wants to be known as a painter or musician, Kraft replies, "I just want to be known as someone who is passionate about the creative process and who insists that we all have the ability and the responsibility to create each and every day of our lives."
