3000 Faith-Based Groups Shaping America

In every disaster that occurs in the world, a religious organization is involved. Here again is another example: Eric Robert Rudolph, the suspect of the Atlanta bombing and an abortion clinic as well as a gay bar was finally caught and arrested. His criminal actions were linked to a religious organization called Christian Identity, a white supremacist group.

And yet President Bush, who is avowedly launching a crusade against evil,

encourages churches, synagogues and other religious organizations to use taxpayers’ money, in effect putting church ahead of state. This would help to incite a growing number of fundamentalist Muslims, Sikhs and Hindus as well as cults, as if 3000 faith- based groups already influencing Americans were not enough.

It is ironic that President Bush would like to establish in Iraq a

democratic separation of church and state, quite contrary to the Shiite goal of a fundamentalist Islamic republic. Yet, in own his country as president of the United States he ignores the constitutional principle of separation of church and state.
