In the opinion of VIP Solutions this is about to change rapidly. On March 10th this Dutch company introduced their product Vippen, which makes it possible to communicate with voice and video using a personal computer.

Everyone with a high-speed internet connection is able to use Vippen, videophone via a personal computer. The only thing you need is a web cam, headset and a VIP-account. Since March 10th people can register for a VIP-account on www.letsvip.com.

Videophone is nothing new. In the early seventies the first experiments with videophone were performed, however with varying success. Since then several videophone system were launched, but they appeared to be interesting for a small part of the business market only or for very specific target groups.

VIP Solutions, the company behind Vippen, thinks the time has come to get the mass public interested for videophone. People don't have to buy expensive hardware. Nowadays in most households a personal computer is available. Also a new infrastructure is not needed. With the extensive growth on the high-speed internet market, videophone becomes available for most people. With the technologies available today it is also possible to include extra services like video email and a video answering machine.

Easy and cheap

Remains a challenge: The more users there are, the more interesting it gets. But with who should you Vip when you are the first to use it? Peter de Vroed, Commercial Director of VIP Solutions is optimistic: "Vippen is easy and cheap. People will save a lot of money on their telephone bill, using this service, because there are no additional charges per call. Because it is very easy to use, we expect a chain reaction."

At the moment VIP Mail (video email) for the business market is in development and has been tested successfully already by some companies. VIP Solutions is planning the release of this product in the near future.
