Medusa Brand Hong Kong Legends Appoint Egovision For Microsite and Viral Competitions to Mark The 30th Anniversary of The Action Heros Death In July
London, UK (PRWEB) 17 July 2003 -- Online strategy, design and development agency Egovision http://www.egovision.com, have delivered the official online Bruce Lee tribute campaign and microsite. The dedicated Hong Kong Legend site and viral competitions mark the 30th anniversary of the action heros death, on 20th July 2003.
The microsite at http://www.hongkonglegends.co.uk/brucelee is the focal point of the first competition, which was soft launched at the end of June 2003. It is due to run until the release of the special edition DVDs and exclusive commemorative box set, officially available from 14th July 2003. The second competition will coincide with the releases, and runs until 31st August 2003.
John Lyons, Interactive Direct at Egovision explains how they were invited to work on the project, We were asked to work on the Bruce Lee project, following the success of the online campaigns to promote the DVD release of 'Ichi The Killer http://www.ichi-the-killer.com/viral/ on Medusas sister label, Premier Asia. We provided ideas for an online campaign to support the new Bruce Lee products to include a microsite and a range of viral and promotional ideas. The initial proposals contained a range of concepts, from which we agreed on a tribute microsite, with an integrated shopping basket, exclusive downloads including a desktop wallpapers and a screensaver. We have learned that this will also now be used by Medusas Dutch partners. There are also two competitions, a recommend a friend email campaign and an 'ultimate Bruce Lee challenge."
The Bruce Lee campaign aimed at Action Movie fans and gamers between the ages of 18-35 years old, is being promoted from the Hong Kong Legends http://www.hongkonglegends.co.uk website. The site and competitions are being pushed via an email campaign for a total of three months, using the Hong Kong Legends mailing list, and leased lists of action movie fans and gamers; integrating online PR via forums, message boards, newsgroups and competition sites.
Debbie Rowland, Marketing Manager at Medusa Communications and Marketing explains how the promotional mechanisms will work, The first competition is a simple prize draw, offering entrants the chance to win one of 10 exclusive box sets. Entrants are offered the chance to refer friends to the competition, earning themselves an additional prize draw entry for every friend that enters.
Competition two is similar to a 'goal of the month competition, whereby entrants have the opportunity of watching the eight best fight scenes and ranking them in order. 50 entrants who most closely match the Hong Kong Legends panels judgement will win exclusive merchandise."
Brian White, Label Manager and DVD Producer for Hong Kong Legends comments, This is an extremely important promotion for Hong Kong legends because the Bruce Lee is one of the greatest icons of this genre and era. However, he still continues to reach out and touch generations after his death inspiring millions, so its an honour to deliver a microsite which pays homage and testament to a wonderful Hong Kong Legend."
Planning and concept development for the campaign was delivered over a month, with microsite and viral build taking three weeks. The Bruce Lee microsite is built in Flash, with the Hong Kong Legends http://www.hongkonglegends.co.uk sales site providing the HTML fallback. Competition one is being delivered as email and HTML WebPages, whereas competition two is to be delivered as an email and Flash.
Lyons adds, The major challenge was in finding a balance between the dynamic and classically retro nature of Bruce Lees work and the iconic status of the man himself. We needed to find a place that avoided being too kitsch or too like an obituary. The additional imagery and information is particularly outstanding, especially as much of it has ever been seen before because it has been sourced from close friends of Bruce Lee."
