The Lamb, published by Writer’s Club Press of iUniverse, Inc., centers around Joshua Adon, a unique child with special abilities who feels and senses things that other people can’t. Strange and miraculous occurrences stalk him throughout life. As an adult, he becomes a professor at Harvard and receives a vial of blood from a collaborator in Israel who believes it to contain the blood of Christ stored for over two millennia by his followers. After performing DNA fingerprinting, Dr. Adon finds that the DNA exactly matches his own. Soon the story is out setting in motion a chain of events that could destroy Josh, his family, and the world. In the aftermath of terrorist attacks and war, America is controlled by an administration that dangerously mixes politics and religion. Now they want Josh. As the world spirals toward Armageddon, man needs a savior and Josh may be the one.

In a recent interview, Dr. Burnett explained how he came up with the idea for The Lamb. “I was sitting at my laboratory bench, frustrated with life and science while reading a DNA sequence from a failed cloning experiment when it hit me: What if we found the blood of Christ and what if it coincidentally matched the DNA from a scientist?” Burnett said. “Scientists are taught always to be skeptical. But a putative match would sweep anyone up into circumstances beyond their control. What would happen to that person?”

The Lamb follows Joshua Adon (Yeshua to his devotees) from birth into adulthood where the story is set 12 years in the future. The world is racked by terrorism and war. The United States military is still in Afghanistan and Iraq as well as Yemen and Sudan, China is threatening to invade Taiwan, which has just declared independence, and Korea is menacing nuclear war.

“I began writing The Lamb in 1998 and finished in early 2001 before September 11th,” said Dr. Burnett. “It’s a little scary that some of the things I wrote back then have come true. I guess the writing was on the wall.”

In The Lamb, America has swung very far to the right where Congress is controlled by fundamentalist Christians in response to increasing amounts of religious-based terrorism around the world. The Vice President, Serol Smith, is a televangelist bend on controlling the religious destiny of America. When a sleazy reporter from the Boston Globe reveals Josh’s match to the DNA, Serol sees an opportunity for a power grab. The story then accelerates when Josh’s wife is kidnapped. Josh is desperate to find her, helped by a sympathetic FBI agent, and an old friend who believes him to be more than just a man.

Bruce Burnett grew up in small towns around Oregon with a love for science, baseball, and writing. After graduating valedictorian from Klamath Union High School in Klamath Falls, Oregon, he went on to college at the University of Puget Sound and then Eastern Washington University where he played college baseball and received his Bachelor degrees in Biology and Chemistry in 1987. Dr. Burnett then went to graduate school at Yale University where he received his PhD in biochemistry and biophysics in 1992. His scientific research has encompassed such diverse topics as DNA recombination and repair, HIV replication, cloning of cancer genes for cell immortalization, hormone research, pain and inflammation, and genetic modulation of gene expression. He has published ten different scientific articles, and currently works as a research director for a pharmaceutical company.

The Lamb is Burnett’s first novel coming on the heels of his first screenplay option to Diane Ladd’s Exxcell Entertainment in Hollywood.
