Dallas West End Hosts 2008 Saint Patrick's Day Block Party March 16

The historic West End's renowned restaurants offer up a variety of traditional and unique St. Paddy's Day treats served outside and in, as live bands play on two stages. The Block Party bridges the gap between Saturday's Greenville Ave. festivities on March 15 and the actual March 17 holiday date. Local charities to receive proceeds of beverage sales.

Dallas, TX March 10, 2008 (PRWEB) March 10, 2008

The historic Dallas West End is going green with a Saint Patrick's Day Block Party that offers tasty Irish food and beverages, dancers and live bands performing on two stages, with no charge for admission. The West End district will be closed to vehicles for the 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. celebration.

Because of the a resurgence in popularity the West End is enjoying, business owners in the district say it is time to do some celebrating and invite the public. The West End Saint Patrick's Day Block Party fills a void in the Dallas Saint Patrick's Day festivities, coming between the city's big party Saturday on Greenville Ave. and the actual holiday date of Monday, Mar. 17.

West End Association President Bob Allen says his group's event will complement, rather than compete with the Greenville Ave. festivities, which annually attract tens of thousands of partiers.
"We're having a good old block party," Allen said. "People who just can't get enough on Saturday will find this a fun way to finish off the weekend. At the same time, the West End Block Party will be family friendly, including activities for kids and pets."

Allen says the event will feature really great food, not carnival fare. The district's more than 20 restaurants will serve Irish dishes, as well as their own specialties, from patio serving areas for those who want to keep walking and visiting in the streets. Beverage stands, run by West End Charities, Inc., will feature Irish ale and American favorites, with proceeds going to support Dallas area charities.

Children's activities include a bounce house, balloon artist, face painters and a story teller at Market and Munger. Pets and owners in costume will compete for prizes for best costume and best human/pet look-alikes. Judging will be at 4:30 p.m. at Humane Society pet adoption area, also at Market and Munger.
