Work Media Introduces Keyword Relative Value: A Simplified Way of Measuring Search Engine Visibility

Work Media has developed a new way of measuring a web site's visibility, using a mathematical formula that derives a value called Keyword Relative Value. The technique results in a single number that represents the value of a web site's search engine rankings for a particular set of keywords in a specific search engine. This value can then be compared to the value for competing sites to easily gauge search engine visibility.

Nashville, TN (PRWEB) March 11, 2008 -- Work Media (http://workmedia.net), LLC, a Nashville, TN-based firm specializing in search engine optimization and pay per click management (http://workmedia.net), has developed a new technique for measuring a web site's search engine visibility and rendering the measurement in an easily understandable format. The technique, called Keyword Relative Value, or "KRV", considers both the expected number of searches for a set of keywords and a web site's rankings in a particular search engine for those keywords. The KRV formula results in a single value representing the strength of a web site's search engine positioning. This value can then be compared to the KRV for competing sites to easily compare one site versus the other.

"Web site owners tend to become obsessed with having their sites rank highly for one or very few keywords, especially when they see their competitors ranking highly for those keywords. The KRV formula takes the emphasis off of a single keyword and instead focuses on how well a site is doing for a wide range of keywords relevant to its business," said Work Media president Jerry Work, the creator of the KRV formula.

When rankings one through thirty for any search engine are charted using this technique, assuming a single keyword (or that every keyword has the same number of searches), it creates a curve very similar in appearance to the curve revealed in real-life studies that have examined how many clicks are generated by different search engine rankings. This extreme similarity lends visual credence to the legitimacy of the method.

Work Media has written an article that explains in detail how to calculate Keyword Relative Value and Aggregate Keyword Relative Value ("AKRV"). The article can be accessed at the following URL:

Said Work, "This technique boils a site's search engine visibility down to a single number that can be compared against its competitors. The number can be tracked over time against your competition as a clear way of measuring your progress. If your number goes up monthly, then you are rising in the search engine rankings, likely for multiple keywords."
