AN EASY-TO-USE SECURITY SOLUTION GIVES YOU THE WAY TO CONTROL USB AND

FIREWIRE DEVICES

(PRWEB) August, 2003 -- SmartLine Inc has released DeviceLock version 5.5 - a unique security solution on the market that lets System Administrators restrict access to USB and FireWire devices on Windows NT4/2000/XP and Windows Server 2003.

Standard access control solutions coming with Windows operating systems do not allow the assignment of permissions for USB and FireWire ports. Anyone can bring and plug a tiny device and download hundreds of megabytes of proprietary information. You do not have to be an administrator to use one of these devices, and you can not manage USB and FireWire devices via Group Policy.

DeviceLock provides System Administrators control over which users can access certain devices on a local computer. You do not need to physically remove or block any hardware. All you need is to install the software and assign the appropriate privileges to each user or user group.

DeviceLock significantly reduces the total cost of network management in enterprise environments by enabling IT personnel to control user access to floppy drives, other removable media, CD-ROM drives, tape devices or USB, FireWire, infrared, serial and parallel ports. What you get is full control over when, how, and which users will be able to use devices inside your corporate network.

DeviceLock helps hospitals to achieve HIPAA compliance and operate in a secure environment. Being extremely user friendly, DeviceLock does not require administrators to pore over help manuals just to learn how to use this program effectively.

System requirements: DeviceLock requires Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows Server 2003, 32 MB RAM, a hard drive with 2 MB of hard disk space.

PortsLock costs $35 (US) for a single-user license. Discounts are available for multi-user licenses and for Educational Institutions. A free, fully functional demo is available for download from http://www.devicelock.com.

SmartLine's many customers include Major Technology stakeholders, some of the largest US and international banks, telecommunications conglomerates, government networks and educational institutions.
