CAI Networks Announces Enhancements to HTTP Compression, DDoS Attack Protection, and L7 Traffic Management in its WebMux™ Load Balancer

Reducing operating costs, enhancing reliability, improving manageability

Santa Ana, CA (PRWEB) March 24, 2008 -- CAI Networks, Inc. announces the release of a new firmware version for its WebMuxTM load balancer and traffic management appliance that enhances WebMux's HTTP Compression, DDoS attack protection, and Layer 7 management capabilities.

HTTP compression can both dramatically improve user performance and decrease costs associated with accessing websites and Web-based applications by reducing bandwidth utilization, DDoS attack protection enhancement safeguards websites from attacks, and improved L7 traffic management allow administrators to better manage websites.

WebMux2s HTTP Compression takes advantage of a long-standing HTTP 1.1 feature in Web browsers by compressing data by upwards of 85% before transmission and letting the browser decompress it before presentation to the user, which makes it compatible with virtually all Web browsers in use today. WebMux can intelligently detect if the client's Web browser supports HTTP compression before sending compressed data to it. WebMux also allows administrators to selectively enable and disable compression on a Web server pool basis.

WebMux2s HTTP compression works seamlessly with all websites and Web-based applications and is interoperable with WebMux2s SSL acceleration and Layer 7 traffic management functionality. Enhanced L7 traffic management allows traffic to be directed to specific Web server pools based on cookie and URL content. These features work hand-in-hand with WebMux2s load balancing functionality to deliver website and Web-based application acceleration by having the best Web servers handle traffic, optimizing the performance of all Web servers, and minimizing the amount of data transmitted.

The new WebMux firmware also provides additional TACACS+ support, allowing more administrators to be authenticated through the centralized TACACS+ servers. WebMux model 680PG also can take advantage of this new firmware release, which allows Fast Spanning Tree protocol to be used in the primary and backup WebMux in a failover configuration.

WebMux is an IPV6 compliant rack-mounted network appliance that operates at OSI layers 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7, thereby providing content-aware switching and intelligent traffic management at wire speed. Ease-of-use, high reliability, and high performance are WebMux's major characteristics. WebMux is validated by Microsoft® for OCS2007, LCS2005, and other Microsoft products. WebMux is also tested by Oracle® for load balancing Oracle Application Server.

Pricing and Availability

WebMux prices start at $3,995, which includes a three-year warranty and three years of technical support, continuing WebMux's tradition of offering the industry's lowest total cost of ownership.

WebMux firmware version 8.4.00 is fitted in all new WebMux and is available as a free update to customers under support contract.
