ConnectPoint 100 Completes Outdoor FSO Trials (Dallas, TX) Crinis Network Solutions announced today that it's ConnectPoint 100 LaserWire product had successfully completed outdoor FSO trials. The tests were conducted with a Ft. Worth based a global corporation with operations in more than 70 nations.
"The client has a number of campus interconnections that are mission critical, but trenching in new fiber or copper is costly and often too slow," said Bill Scott, CEO of Crinis Networks. "The value offered by the ConnectPoint 100 was attractive because it usually installs in less than 10 minutes, and is much lower in price than other 'cable-less' connections of comparable speed." Scott notes that the ConnectPoint 100 is priced at a fraction of traditional FSO equipment, but unlike currently available optical communications products, the ConnectPoint 100 had initially addressed the indoor enterprise premise market.
"We expect to see this client deploy the product in a number of factories and warehouses," Scott added.
"We made some modifications to the product to provide for environmental issues," said Harry Littlejohn, Crinis CTO. "The customer's installation had some challenging requirements, and the link is required to operate in the heat of the Texas summer, with significant thermal scintillation. The trials also involved periods of obscuration, and other challenges which have caused problems for other FSO products. The operation was flawless, as indicated by our measurements, and by the client's independent data set."
Pricing for the outdoor version of the product has yet to be announced, but the company indicated that it would maintain its policy of price leadership in optical networking.
The ConnectPoint 100 is distributed through Anixter and CSC. Major suppliers to Crinis are Sanyo and Texas Instruments.
