(PRWEB) September 22 2003--On October 13th and 14th, 2003, North American and International Clay Aiken fans of all ages unite for an unprecedented grass-roots event to mark the release of the American Idol phenomenon’s debut CD, “Measure of a Man.” Notably, their aim is to make Aiken the first new artist to reach platinum certification in a single day. From coast to coast, motivated Canadian fans join in the world-wide enthusiasm. Fans in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal and Halifax have plans to party. Due to Canadian Thanksgiving (Oct. 13), CD Release Parties for Canadian fans will occur on the evening of Tuesday, October 14th, 2003, at varying times and locations.
Festivities at this family-friendly event will include Aiken’s new music, refreshments, contests, activities, prizes, surprises and tons of other fun! Canadian Guests are asked to bring an item for the local food bank; Aiken has expressed desire to use his celebrity status to make a difference and to encourage people to “think, act, feel, and love.”
So far, Aiken’s multi-generational followers have stepped forward to fulfill his wish. In August, his internet fans contributed over $42 000 to his newly established Bubel-Aiken Foundation for individuals with Special Needs. Foundation Attorney Frances Skinner-Lewis states “We intend to have the work of the foundation stretch wherever Clay's fans will take us. Canada, UK, New Zealand, and Australia will be our first outreaches.” At the 2003 Muscular Dystrophy Labour Day Telethon, Aiken’s internet fans gave over $30 000 in his honour. Prior to Aiken’s Foundation launch, the Autism Society Canada, at the suggestion of a fan, set up a special fund where Canadian fans could donate in his name. (Aiken worked with autistic children prior to his sudden career in the entertainment industry.) Several hundred dollars were raised.
Clay Aiken’s double-A sided single “This Is the Night/ Bridge Over Troubled Water,” released in June 2003, quickly shattered sales records held by Elton John’s 1997 remake of “Candle In the Wind” and became the top selling single in 2003. In just over a month, Aiken’s single was certified platinum by RIAA in the USA. In Canada, the single achieved six-time platinum status. Most recently, Aiken earned an American Music Awards nomination as Favourite Male Pop/Rock Artist after only 3 months in the industry!
