NYC EVERYDAY DIVA- THE ONE WOMAN SHOW IGNITES THE LOS ANGELES THEATER SCENE. Elisa Perry has brought her NYC, one-woman show, Everyday Diva, to Los Angeles. Theatergoers are clamoring to see her performance at the Complex Theater in Hollywood. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE- Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) September 23 2003
Elisa Perry has brought her NYC, one-woman show, Everyday Diva, to Los Angeles. Theatergoers are clamoring to see her performance at the Complex Theater in Hollywood. Ms. Perry, a Philadelphia native, has been wowing audiences to sold out performances on both coasts. Conceived out of the notion, Just being born a woman, we are all divas in our own right", Ms. Perry co wrote and produced this one hour comedy.
Headed up by her character, Tamiko Patterson, a young woman obsessed with Broadway musicals, and her therapist, the audience is introduced to the characters of Morgan Schwartz, the divorced mother who is still in love with her Jewish ex-husband, who thinks he's black; Cheryl Irving Swoopes, the disillusioned basketball player, who can barely bounce a ball; Me Yong, the Korean manicurist who thinks she's Jackie Chan; Ojume Kimwaki, the African princess, who is devastated when she find's out that she comes from the decedents of slaves; Mae Millie, the ancestor of Ojume, who is a serial killer, and Alize Monet Taylor, the fast food queen obsessed with becoming a video queen.
Ms. Perry, spending a number of years on the NYC theater circuit, partnered with her friend, Reyes Moss to write the show, 'Divas in Training'. After rewrites, and the unexpected death of Moss, the name of the show was changed to Everyday Diva, which premiered in Los Angeles September 3, 2003 for a six week run ending October 8. The show will take a brief hiatus, to return this fall at a new venue. Ms. Perry was nominated for a 2002 NAACP Theatre Award for "Best Supporting Actress" in a play for her role as "Delia", in the classic "Blues For An Alabama Sky."
Everyday Diva, which shows Wednesday nights only, has drawn a large celebrity following. Stars such as Regina Hall, Melissa DeSousa, Kevin Carroll, and Niki Haris are just a few who have come to support Ms. Perry. There is also a website, www.everydaydiva.net, which not only posts show information, but also sells Everyday Diva T-shirts. A portion of t-shirt sales will benefit the Entertainment Industry Foundations, Revlon Run/Walk, an event to raise money for the fight against breast cancer. (Ms. Perrys mother died of breast cancer at 36, when she was only 6 years old).
Ms. Perry, has a major in Urban Studies from Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Everyday Diva will be touring the U.S. with the tours launch on the east coast, in the late spring of 2004.
