San Diego (PRWEB) April 2, 2008 -- Not since the opening of Stingaree have San Diegans been so eager for a new nightlife venue. The wait is almost over for what will certainly rival any urban-lounge found in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Miami and New York City as Universal, EnDev Enterprises' latest high-style entertainment destination, opens its doors in mid-April. EnDev, the "it factory" behind the city's hottest night spots including Stingaree, Side Bar and Bar West, will finally unveil Universal in early Spring with a red carpet grand opening event. The $5 million, 15,000 sq. ft. location will house four distinct, urban entertainment concepts: Dish @ Universal, the lounge's chic new urban comfort food restaurant; The Garden, a swanky open-air lounge area with firepits; Universal, the uber-hip indoor lounge and a Ciro's Pizzeria. An experience designed to stimulate all the senses, Universal's synergy of mood, food and attitude will breathe vibrant new life into a structural eyesore that has plagued the popular neighborhood's busiest intersection for years.
One of the largest multi-concept entertainment destinations on the West Coast, Universal's appeal is far reaching. As its name implies, Universal celebrates unity, embracing Hillcrest's predominantly gay community while welcoming an entire social spectrum of patrons. In signature EnDev fashion, the lounge will play host to many of the top DJs from around the globe, celebrities, entertainers and world-class parties and special events.
Once home to an adult video store, cactus retailer and adjacent beauty school, the corner storefronts along University Avenue at Vermont Street have been completely transformed into San Diego's premier urban entertainment enclave. The Universal experience is just as much style and sex appeal, as it is substance, befitting its location and attractive clientele. EnDev has turned up the volume with dramatic interior design elements that are as funky and fabulous as they are fluid. Both the lounge and DISH restaurant have features that flow well together, yet each environment will be its own individual space. While the restaurant is more organic and cozy using an earthy color palette accented with metallic gold accessories, upholstered high-back booths, Boa snakeskin wall panels and Peacock feather art installations, the ultra lounge pops with high-gloss black and intense pink, orange and red accents, an elevated oval dance floor underneath a soffit of 60 flat panel screens projecting trippy images and artwork, a state-of-the-art audio and lighting system and a vertical 15-foot bottle display lit by hundreds of candles. The Garden, Universal's stylish alfresco lounge area, will feature two fire pits and connect Dish with Universal. The space will also serve as the perfect location for brunch to scope the crowds on University Avenue.
Universal's hip style, cusine and vibe are equaled only by an enticing selection of signature drinks created exclusively for the lounge by its team of acclaimed mixologists. Specialty martinis like The Bear, with Bailey's, Godiva liqueur, vanilla Vodka, Kahlua and espresso, and the Lance Bass with Rumplemintz, Frangelico, Hershey's syrup and whipped cream come highly recommended along with its seemingly endless list of top-shelf spirits, wines, beers and non-alcoholic beverages. Universal will also see the launch of EnDev's newest bottle service concept, dubbed MIXOLOGY. Working differently than traditional VIP bottle service, MIXOLOGY provides customers with a menu of select liquors and champagnes along with inventive drink recipes, allowing them to mix up any number of individualized specialty drinks, from Mojitos, Martinis and Margaritas to Champagne cocktails and wine spritzers. MIXOLOGY helps complete the Universal experience by making a night out with friends interactive, personal and more importantly, memorable.
Realizing that no one likes to wait in line to have a good time, patrons of Universal can get instant gratification with the EnDev card. A principal attraction of Universal, DISH will feature a tantalizing twist on comfort food favorites designed to appeal to a plethora of palates, from the more sophisticated to the easy-to-please, offering a menu of local, organic and fresh comfort fare. Helming the kitchen at DISH is EnDev's culinary phenom, Chef Antonio Friscia, who's Stingaree landed a coveted spot on Conde Nast Traveler's 2007 "Hot List." His DISH menu of urban comfort food will tease, tantalize and satisfy serving lunch, dinner, weekend brunch and late night bites. While dining, guests will enjoy entertainment options including jazz nights, live acoustic guitar and violin performances.
Scheduled to open in Spring 2008 Universal is located at 1220 University Avenue, on the corner of Vermont. For additional information, visit http://www.universalhillcrest.com or contact Jamie Lynn Sigler of J Public Relations, (858) 395-5264.
