Deniece Duscheone Accepts Top Design Award for Redesign of Historic US Grant Hotel
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) April 3, 2008
The US Grant Hotel, the recently renovated historic "chic" hotel in downtown San Diego, was awarded "Best Luxury Guestroom Design" at the HotelWorld Global Hospitality & Design Awards in Las Vegas. Deniece Duscheone of San Diego was the designer and project manager of the hotel's $56 million renovation, and she was commissioned to add modern elements of luxury, design and comfort while maintaining the building's historical structure.
"It was an honor to complete the redesign of this famous hotel," says Duscheone, a partner in the firm S.K.I.N. "It's incredibly rewarding to receive international attention and recognition for the project." Duscheone's work on the US Grant has been acknowledged through multiple awards and publications, including the California Construction award for Best Architectural Renovation in 2006 and the Alanzo Award for Best Design.
Duscheone's design of the US Grant's Luxury Guestroom competed against Hirsch/Bedner's room design for The Cove at Atlantis, DiLeonardo International's room design at the Ritz-Carlton Sharq Village & Spa, and Dawson Design Associates' room design at The Alexis Hotel.
The US Grant Hotel is owned by the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation, and Duscheone incorporated motifs of the evening primrose, the Sycuan's tribal flower, throughout the hotel, including the guestrooms. Inspired by the bay, Duscheone chose azure blue as the signature color of the hotel. All of the guestrooms, as well as the lobby, contain Duscheone's custom-designed furniture, lighting, and textiles.
Duscheone, who attained her Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accreditation through the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in 2004, installed LED lighting in the interior and the exterior of the US Grant. Her original lighting designs, including Flur, an extravagant crystal chandelier that made its debut in the twin Presidential Suites, can be found throughout the hotel. Duscheone's lighting collection, marketed under the name Kinetic, has recently been added to the Beckmann MooreYaki Studio showrooms in Los Angeles and San Francisco.
