(PRWEB) October 7, 2003
Junior Seau, All-Pro linebacker for the San Diego Chargers and Miami Dolphins, to receive the 2004 Humane Award presented by The Christian Okoye Foundation.
The Humane Award is presented to athletes who exemplify the mission of contributing back to their communities.
Christian Okoye, the former Kansas City Chief, will present Junior Seau with the award at a Black Tie Dinner on February 29th 2004, at the Double Tree Hotel, Ontario Airport, California.
ÂIn 1992 Junior created his foundation to provide programs that inspire young people to face lifeÂs challenges with enthusiasm, hope and dignity, states Christian Okoye.
ÂHe uses his platform in the National Football League to raise money and provide todayÂs youth with ongoing support in the form of scholarships and financial support for a variety of programs.Â
ÂThrough his foundation, Junior has awarded more than 200 scholarships to college-bound students, and every December, he takes more than 200 underprivileged kids on a shopping spree to buy gifts for friends and family, continues Okoye.
For his outstanding community service Junior was named the True Value Hardware NFL Man of Year in 1994.
A sell-out attendance of 500 is expected for the fund raising dinner with proceeds to benefit The Christian Okoye Foundation. These funds go towards helping under privileged in the Inland Empire.
ÂJunior Seau is an inspiration to all athletes who have the ability to use their popularity for charitable causes and benefit those that are less fortunate, concludes Okoye.
