GigaOM's 'Structure 08' Conference Will Explore the Latest Wave of Disruptive Technologies

Industry Pioneers from Salesforce.com, Sun Microsystems, VMware, Amazon.com and Others Will Gather at the First Annual Conference in San Francisco Aimed at Exploring the Current Internet Infrastructure Buildout

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) April 8, 2008 -- Giga Omni Media, a leading provider of publications and events for the technology and information industries, will hold its first conference dedicated to Internet infrastructure on June 25, 2008, at the Mission Bay Conference Center in San Francisco. Structure 08 will sort through the emerging and disruptive computing technologies that make up the building blocks of the next generation of the Internet, such as virtualization, SaaS and cloud computing. It will also feature representatives from the companies pioneering such technologies, including Sun Microsystems, VMWare and Amazon.com, and the startups that are leveraging them.

"From Google to Facebook to Hulu to MySpace -- web businesses are seeing unprecedented growth," said Om Malik, Giga Omni Media's founder. "In an effort to meet the demands of their customers, these companies have been forced to spend billions of dollars on servers, switches and a whole lot of other stuff that, taken together, forms an 'infrastructure'. Structure 08 will explore the risks and opportunities associated with this new generation of infrastructure technologies. It will also highlight the best implementations, case studies, ideas and startups."

The emergence of the Internet economy in the mid-1990s sparked an unprecedented demand for bandwidth, connectivity and other related services. That demand spawned an entirely new spending cycle related to infrastructure platforms. These platforms, which have been used to conduct business for more than a decade, are now starting to provide diminishing returns. Structure 08 will look at the cool ideas that have already emerged and examine the innovations yet to come -- from new databases to new architectures for data centers. Topics will include:

•    How Utility Cloud Computing is changing the entire business ecosystem

•    Ways to make infrastructure buildouts more environmentally friendly

•    How some of the biggest presences on the web approached their infrastructure growth strategies

•    What foolproof, scalable infrastructure is and how to implement it

•    How to decide if your business should lease or invest in new technology

Scheduled keynote speakers include Werner Vogels, CTO of Amazon.com, and Greg Papadopoulos, CTO of Sun Microsystems. Other speakers include VMware co-founder Mendel Rosenblum, Salesforce.com co-founder Parker Harris, NetSuite President and Chief Executive Officer Zach Nelson, Microsoft VP Debra Chrapaty and Drew Perkins, co-founder of Infinera. Panel session topics include: Cloud Computing, Next-Generation Data Layers, Greener Infrastructure, Scaling to Satiate Demand and Rapidly Scaling Web Sites to Meet Demand.
