Study: Top 10 Emerging Trends in Money Technology Top Analysts Weigh In as DaVinci Institute Prepares for the Future of Money Summit As the DaVinci Institute prepares for the upcoming Future of Money Summit, their researchers have released a study listing the top 10 technology trends in the area of money When it comes to ranking the most important trends in money, whatever the results happen to be, the topics are bound to be controversial. But as the Colorado-based DaVinci Institute prepares for the upcoming Future of Money Summit (www.futureofmoneysummit.com) on October 27-29, 2003 their researchers and top industry analysts have focused in on some of the forces at play in the money world, most of which are not very obvious.
"We looked at many of the new public policies, technology breakthroughs, and emerging business strategies," said Thomas Frey, Executive Director of the DaVinci Institute. "We tended to stay away from the momentary niche trends and favored what we perceived as the overarching trends likely to have the greatest overall impact in the future."
Some of the trends such as 10.) The Emergence of the Multi-Channel Shopper, and 6.) RFID Tags Set the Stage for Automatic Checkout Lines, tend to focus on the changes in how consumers will be making purchases. Others speak to the changing nature of banking and the transaction systems.
But perhaps the biggest surprise is the number one trend being the emergence of dual currency systems around the world. In some circles these have become known as complementary currencies.
"Complementary currencies in contrast, are created for different purposes, and consequently have very different rules for their creation and their operation," says Bernard Lietaer, co-architect of the Euro and author of the book The Future of Money. "Frequent Flyer miles is an example of a commercial complementary currency. Many others are designed with a social purpose. However, for the most part, complementary currencies are still operating below the radar of officialdom and the media."
Mr. Lietaer will be one of the featured speakers at the upcoming Future of Money Summit. The entire paper of the "Top 10 Emerging Trends in Money Technology" can be seen at www.futureofmoneysummit.com/top-10-trends.php
