JAN SCHNEIDER TO FORMALLY CHALLENGE KATHERINE HARRIS Sarasota, Florida -- Jan Schneider will issue a formal announcement of her candidacy for Congress in Floridas 13th District on Monday, November 3rd during a special campaign kick-off gala event at the renowned Golden Apple Dinner Theater. Sarasota, Florida -- Jan Schneider will issue a formal announcement of her candidacy for Congress in Floridas 13th District on Monday, November 3rd during a special campaign kick-off gala event at the renowned Golden Apple Dinner Theater.
Schneider (D) is challenging incumbent Katherine Harris (R) for the hearts and minds of District 13 voters. But many observers consider Schneiders formal entry into the 2004 race as much more significant and symbolic than a routine run for Congress.
To the amazement of political gurus, Schneider garnered a whopping 45.2% of the vote in 2002, in her first grassroots effort against Harris. This is especially noteworthy since District 13 registrations show Republicans holding a 2 to 1 advantage.
As a result of her remarkable showing in 2002, Jan Schneider and her 2004 campaign are the focus of national attention now. E-mails, letters and phone calls of encouragement for Jans 2004 Campaign are arriving from Americans in most states", according to one Schneider Campaign official.
Katherine Harris (the then, Florida Secretary of State) received widespread notoriety by her controversial decision in 2000 that effectively declared George W. Bush as winner in Florida over Al Gore by a 537-vote margin.
We learned valuable lessons from our 2002 campaign experience. Schneider stated, District 13 voters clearly want change." She added, this time, we will win.".
