Clinton Needs Another "Crazy Reverend" to Win Nomination, Says Apollo Interactive

Trailing Obama in delegates and campaign funds, online user-generated media might be Clinton's last chance to gain momentum.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) April 11, 2008 -- Hillary Clinton's shot at the Democratic nomination hinges on online viral marketing according to LA-based interactive advertising agency Apollo Interactive.

"Clinton is running out of time and cash. I don't know if there is anything she can do with traditional paid media to change people's minds. Another well timed volley of mud and a great video clip may be the only chance of influencing opinion in this endless campaign," states David Bohline, COO at Apollo Interactive.

The recent Rev. Wright controversy has demonstrated the power of online user-generated content by providing people with access to clips of Rev. Wright's inflammatory statements on YouTube along with Obama's speech on race relations--which drew in close to four million views as of last week.

Viral marketing will continue to play a significant role in the 2008 election, acting as a platform for information distribution as it is so readily accessible and democratic in nature. "Viral marketing is effective because it's credible. People trust a message delivered by someone they know more than a message they know someone has paid for them to see," states Bohline.

Political scandals gain considerable traction and mainstream publicity when fueled by viral marketing. Another Rev. Wright-like Obama scandal and its inevitable exposure online could be just what Clinton needs to cast doubt in the minds of superdelegates and redirect the race. Clinton can rely on the nature of the web to do the job for her if Obama finds himself in hot water. "If Clinton wants to win the nomination without winning the regular delegate count, she better have some great dirt on Obama and it has got to be viral," said Bohline.
