Leveraging recent technological advancements in virtual private networks and data storage technologies, inTelemed.net has developed a software suite and data warehousing equipment to accommodate the large and growing volume of medical images produced by hospital radiology departments and off-site imaging centers.

In recent years radiology equipment manufacturers have implemented the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) standard into equipment such as MRI machines, CT scanners and X-Ray equipment. The DICOM standard allows hospitals to transmit medical images digitally, avoiding the costs and time associated with developing film. In the past, rural hospitals were required to make large capital purchases in archiving equipment to realize benefits from this new technology.
