Oct 16, 2003 - INTELEMED.NET ANNOUNCES NEW MEDICAL IMAGE ARCHIVE IN OKLAHOMA CITY

inTelemed.net, a developer of emerging technologies for the medical industry, today announced a new medical image archiving facility located in Oklahoma City.

Oklahoma City (PRWEB)October 16, 2003 -- inTelemed.net, a developer of emerging technologies for the medical industry, today announced a new medical image archiving facility located in Oklahoma City.

The archive allows mid-size and small hospitals to use sophisticated digital equipment to acquire, interpret and store medical data in a secure, state-of-the-art data center

Leveraging recent technological advancements in virtual private networks and data storage technologies, inTelemed.net has developed a software suite and data warehousing equipment to accommodate the large and growing volume of medical images produced by hospital radiology departments and off-site imaging centers.

In recent years radiology equipment manufacturers have implemented the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) standard into equipment such as MRI machines, CT scanners and X-Ray equipment. The DICOM standard allows hospitals to transmit medical images digitally, avoiding the costs and time associated with developing film. In the past, rural hospitals were required to make large capital purchases in archiving equipment to realize benefits from this new technology. Most rural hospitals did not have the extra capital or specialized expertise required to implement digital archiving of radiology studies.

New patent-pending technology integrated into the inTelemed.net system allows multiple, unaffiliated hospitals to share centrally located archiving equipment and distribute capital costs amongst many facilities while benefiting from inTelemed.nets market leading technologies for retrieval and distribution of medical data and reports.

Medical data is transmitted via virtual private networks (VPN) to inTelemed.nets data center located within the Perimeter Technology Center (www.perimetercenter.com) in Oklahoma City. There data is warehoused according to HIPAA regulations, typically 7 years or longer, in a state-of-the art, multi-million dollar data center designed specifically for high-availability data storage applications.

Alex Weeks, president of inTelemed.net said, were offering technology any hospital would be eager to use, but were offering this technology to the small and mid-sized hospital market typically ignored by large vendors in our industry. Weve already begun to dramatically improve the quality of care patients receive in rural hospitals."
