PrismTech joins the Software Defined Radio (SDR) Forum Will Contribute Experience in Wireless Infrastructure Software in Support of SDR take-up and exhibit at SDR03 Boston, MA, (PRWEB) 24 October, 2003 -- PrismTech today announced that it has joined the Software Defined Radio (SDR) Forum. PrismTech will contribute its experience in CORBA® and SCA-compliant wireless infrastructure software to help accelerate the take-up of SDR for next-generation wireless services.
To introduce itself to the whole SDR Forum community, PrismTech will be exhibiting in booth 17 at the SDR '03 Technical Conference and Product Exposition which will be held in Orlando, Florida, USA on November 17-19, 2003. At the event PrismTech will be demonstrating its latest SDR developments including its middleware solution for digital signal processor (DSP) environments.
PrismTech is an acknowledged leader in the provision of standards-based software infrastructure to an impressive list of multinational customers in sectors including telecommunications, data communications, defense and aerospace. PrismTech has offices in North America, the UK and mainland Europe developing and marketing a range of low-footprint, high-performance products specifically designed for Real-Time Embedded (RTE) applications; providing platform independence, interoperability and resource optimization. PrismTech's OpenFusion® e*ORB has rapidly become the CORBA "middleware of choice" for SCA-compliant SDR solutions.
The SDR Forum, established in 1996, is an international industry association dedicated to promoting the development, deployment and use of SDR technologies for advanced wireless systems in civil, commercial and military sectors. The SDR Forum has developed close relationships with a variety of regulatory and leading industry organizations, including the U.S. Department of Defenses (DoD) Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) program. The Forum provided key input in the DoD's development of the Software Communications Architecture (SCA) specifications. The SCA ensures that SDR devices from different manufacturers support the same waveforms and applications, are dynamically (re)configurable and fully interoperable. The SCA has been officially adopted by the SDR Forum and is being promoted to the Object Management Group to become a possible international standard.
These SCA standards for interoperability (now mandated for DoD SDR) are at the heart of PrismTech's OpenFusion e*ORB RTE product suite. OpenFusion e*ORB is unique in that it can provide the ultra high performance and small memory footprint required by the SDR platform. In addition, OpenFusion e*ORB contains adaptable and configurable modules to match the architecture, protocol and demands of a SDR environment. Finally, OpenFusion e*ORB is the only product on the market that has been successfully ported to run on DSPs. These combined features enable PrismTech to provide a military SCA-compliant SDR infrastructure solution to the widest range of radio architectures and types, including both base stations and handsets.
"PrismTech is very pleased to be joining the SDR Forum," said Keith Steele, Chief Executive Officer of PrismTech. "We believe there is massive potential for the take up of its specifications in both the government and commercial wireless sectors and we very much look forward to contributing to its valuable work."
"We are pleased to have PrismTech join the SDR Forum and look forward to the insight and knowledge the company will contribute," said Allan Margulies, Chief Operating Officer of the SDR Forum. "Their experience will prove to be a great asset to the Forum, particularly in the areas of wireless infrastructure software and SCA."
