DECA Advisors Get Inside Track on Teaching Personal Finance to High School Students, Boosting Competitive Events Test Scores

Workshops at International Career Development Conference focus on using instructional technology to infuse economics and personal finance into DECA program.

New York, NY (PRWEB) April 20, 2008 -- The National Council on Economic Education (NCEE, www.ncee.net) unveiled its workshops at the DECA International Career Development Conference (www.deca.org) that takes place on April 26th to April 28th at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

The workshops provide Advisors with new ways to infuse their DECA programs with both economics and personal finance content, with a focus on using instructional technology to boost competitive events test scores. Teachers will leave with handouts and additional resources they can share with their students.

"Advisors have more instructional demands being placed on an already overflowing plate," says Troy White, NCEE's Director Product Marketing and Sales. "But with the right technology tools in place, Advisors can free up time to focus on coaching their students to be top performers during the competitive events."

To help Advisors prep their DECA students to become financially fit leaders in today's global economy, Kathy Miles, NCEE's Teacher Support Specialist, will conduct a workshop entitled 'ABC's of Financial Literacy.' During the session, Advisors will preview instructional DVD's, educational software and website resources that will help their students understand the basics of credit, income, saving, investing, money management.

Immediately following the 'ABC's of Financial Literacy,' Advisors can join Mrs. Miles in another workshop, 'Xperience the Difference with Instructional Technology for Economics and Financial Literacy.' Mrs. Miles will demonstrate how the 4 X's -- Xplore, Xchange, Xperiment and Xcel -- can help Advisors give their DECA students a competitive edge during competitions, including boosting their test scores.

During the break, Advisors can visit NCEE at booth 1617 to browse additional economics and personal finance resources. Booth attendees with have the opportunity to test their own skills with a personal finance and economics quiz. Advisors will also have the chance to win a Sony Cybershot, an iPod shuffle and assorted NCEE products.

The exhibit will take place on Sunday, April 27th at 8:00am to 4:00pm and Monday, April 28th at 8:00am to 3:00pm.
