Hillary Rodham and Barry Obama tried to stay on the issues as they faced off at the Schoolhouse debate 08'. Oh and by the way, the debate - which can be viewed exclusively on YouTube -is for the 3rd grade president of their class. The video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpjRdUCkI9w), which was produced by a New York based husband and wife team, features 3 kids playing the parts of Hillary Rodham, Barack Obama, and Keith Olbermann.
The kids cover all the adult issues in a 3rd grade context. "We wanted to make sure that the topics covered were child appropriate," states Barbi Bistrowitz, one of the producers of the video. "For example, instead of talking about Super Delegates deciding the outcome of the election, the kids talked about Teachers deciding the outcome if their fellow students could not decide," explained the husband part of the team, Remy Arteaga.
The video opens with Lil' Keith Olbermann asking Barry (Barack) if he would like his bottle of water, playing to the charge that Barack receives special treatment from the media. The idea for the video was inspired "by the real candidates themselves, who often act like children," states Remy Arteaga. "We also thought this would be a nice way of introducing some of the presidential topics to kids, in a language they would understand," added Barbi Bistrowitz. Ultimately Remy and Barbi just wanted to add some levity to the democratic contest, which often gets bogged down with attacks and counter-attacks.
The video that was released today is the part one of a two-part video. The second part of the video is expected to be released the week of April 28th. Barbi and Remy hope to produce more videos along the same lines, if people really enjoy the first video.
