(PRWEB) March 29, 2006 The Coordinating Committee For Automotive Repair (CCAR) announces that General Motors has adopted CCAR’s “S/P2” online training in Safety and Pollution Prevention as part of the curriculum for its GM ASEP and GM BSEP programs. CCAR’s Internet-based “S/P2” training addresses the key safety and pollution prevention issues that face professionals working in automotive service and collision repair, as well as students in automotive training programs. S/P2 was developed by CCAR over a two-year period in accord with U.S. EPA and OSHA standards, which require that shop personnel and students be trained at least annually on safety and environmental regulations. The General Motors Automotive Service Educational Program (GM ASEP) and Body Service Educational Program (GM BSEP) are two-year, Associate Degree programs designed to provide competent automotive service and auto body repair technicians to General Motors dealers. More than 70 carefully selected colleges and universities coast-to-coast currently participate in the programs, and since 1979, GM ASEP/BSEP colleges and universities have produced over 11,000 graduate service technicians. “It is essential for GM and our dealers that entry-level technicians receive the best possible training related to preventing pollution and maintaining a safe work environment,” said Bob Slovey, GM’s National ASEP/AYES Manager. “S/P2 allows the colleges and universities that make up GM ASEP/BSEP to both train and track in these areas.” “The opportunity to work with General Motors and its select group of GM ASEP/BSEP schools is another important milestone in our S/P2 efforts,” said Lirel Holt, CCAR Chairman of the Board. “We are grateful to GM for the careful consideration that went into this decision, and we look forward to an ongoing relationship to the benefit of the industry’s progress in environmental and safety concerns.” CCAR provides S/P2 free of charge to schools. The business edition of S/P2 is available for a $299 annual subscription per facility. For both businesses and schools, the S/P2 program tracks technician/student progress through the training, grades tests and is constantly updated with federal and state laws. CCAR, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, also operates “CCAR-GreenLink®,” the National Environmental Compliance Assistance Center for Automotive Repair, in cooperation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency [EPA].
