Philadelphia, PA -- November 6, 2003 The ITF International Tennis Federation" has awarded the 2004 ITF Vets World championships, to the city of Philadelphia World Senior Tennis Championship Organizing Committee. These world-class seniors team and individual tournaments are scheduled for September 11- 19 and September 20-26, 2004. Men and women ages 55 and over, in five-year age increments through the 90s, will compete in the International Team Championships and the World Individual Championships.

The ITF International Tennis Federation" has awarded the 2004 ITF Vets World championships, to the city of Philadelphia World Senior Tennis Championship Organizing Committee.

These world-class seniors team and individual tournaments are scheduled for September 11- 19 and September 20-26, 2004. Men and women ages 55 and over, in five-year age increments through the 90s, will compete in the International Team Championships and the World Individual Championships. With teams representing as many as 42 countries and open competition for The Individual Championships, the event is heralded as the Worlds Largest Tennis Tournament". This marks only the third time in tournament history that the Championships will be played in the United States.

The quality of grass court play in the Philadelphia area as well as the intense regional interest in tennis were among determining factor in awarding the Philadelphia and Germantown Cricket Clubs host status. Both clubs will be celebrating their 150th year sesquatinial anniversaries.

Organizing committee chairman and seniors competitor, Michael Beautyman commented; Tennis competitors from around the globe have heard about the exceptional grass court facilities in the Philadelphia area. Now they can experience it first hand while visiting one of the worlds greatest cities and one of Americas foremost landmarks."

With an estimated 1,500 players from around the world competing, tournament officials are preparing by involving premium clubs in other cities for some of the age group team events; however all of the individual matches will be played at one of the four facilities in the Philadelphia area.

WTA Tennis great, Pam Shriver, has agreed to act as Honorary Tournament Director and looks forward to seeing familiar faces from former Davis Cup and Wightman Cup competitions.

The Individual Championships are open to anyone, with no need to qualify.
