New Inspirational Novel Helps Struggling Christians With Hard Issues

Liberty, Missouri November 13, 2003

For the Love of a Child, by Wilburta Arrowood is shaking the foundations of many people across the nation. Arrowood says she is receiving phone calls, e-mail messages, letters, and words of encouragement in person almost daily about how her new novel has touched someone.

The novel is about a woman whose only daughter has died and a man is responsible. The heroine goes on a quest to find the man and exact revenge. Before she does find him, she becomes a Christian and has to decide whether to pursue her quest or to forgive. Even when she decides to give up her search, pieces of the puzzle continue to fall in place as a result of her earlier investigations. Each time she has to make the decision anew, she struggles with her daughters death and the question of whether she can forgive and the question of whether a just God could really expect her to.

Oner lady told Arrowood about a friend who read the book after her son was murdered in a break in. That incident happened five years ago and the woman has struggled with anger and bitterness all this time, especially since the murderer was a relative. After reading the book, she said, This book has helped me more than anything I have encountered since my sons death."

That gives me cold chills and it really humbles me," Arrowood says. When I wrote the book I hoped it would be compelling, and of course, I wanted it to glorify God, but I never dreamed there would be people helped in such intense measure."

I attended a meeting a few days ago and a lady there told me how the book had touched a co-worker of hers.

The lady said her friend had refused any overture toward Christianity at every invitation for the past several years. When presented with the opportunity to read For the Love of a Child, the woman grew excited about the beautiful cover picture of tiny baby feet and asked to borrow it. After finishing the novel, she agreed to attend worship services and has grown truly excited about serving God.

Arrowood says, I think it took the book to help her realize Christians are not perfect. She grew to understand we dont have to be perfect, we just need to try to be so."

Arrowood says it took her five years to get the book published, and in that time she rewrote it numerous times, struggling to get the words just right. If the people she is hearing from are any indicator, it appears she has done an outstanding job of helping people to understand their own anger and bitterness and to put it to rest.
