AFCO SYSTEMS Introduces Rugged, High Airflow Door for Datacenter Enclosure Systems

New, high-durability mesh door ensures high level of airflow and durability for passive datacenter enclosures.

Farmingdale, NY (PRWEB) April 28, 2008 - New ASHRAE specifications calling for 80 percent nominal airflow through passive datacenter cabinet doors often result in trading off stability for greater airflow. But in an engineering breakthrough, AFCO Systems (www.AFCOSystems.com), a global leader in the design and manufacture of advanced enclosure technology for mission-critical datacenter environments, has developed a new door for its flagship datacenter enclosure systems that meet requirements for both airflow and durability. More information about AFCO Systems' datacenter enclosures is available at http://www.afcosystems.com/enclosures.htm

"As we began adopting the new ASHRAE specification, some of AFCO's customers expressed concern that the resulting product was too flimsy," stated Paul Mallia, AFCO's Director of Engineering. "I challenged our engineering team to come up with a design that would meet or exceed the 80 percent airflow requirement without sacrificing the ruggedness and durability associated with the AFCO product line."

AFCO engineers met the challenge through a unique combination of bracing and force-heated aluminum extrusions that provided the maximum amount of strength and passive airflow to the cabinet. In addition to the target goals of durability and high airflow, the engineers created a more robust hinging system, accommodations for grounding studs and an overall look that is more aesthetically pleasing.

AFCO President and COO Jerry Becker added, "Paul and his team developed an outstanding new door design for our enclosures. The design team also worked with our manufacturing engineers to control production costs. We are pleased to be able to offer this enhanced product to our clients without a price increase."

AFCO expects the new door design to begin rolling out across the AFCO product line toward the end of May 2008.
