NEW YORK, NY - The ASA Art and Technology announced today that on Sunday, December 14, 2003, at the Experimental Intermedia Foundation, located at 224 Centre Street, in New York City, the composer Emanuel D. M. Pimenta - who has created music for Merce Cunningham since the 1980's - will perform an unexpected, three overlapped concerts. Pimenta's concert is part of a series of events to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Experimental Intermedia Foundation.

The Experimental Intermedia Foundation (EI), based in New York City, was created in 1968 by Elaine Summers to provide organizational support for artists working in intermedia forms. Throughout its history, EI has produced more than one thousand events in its New York lofts. EI has also produced many intermedia events in other cities in the U.S. and other countries. EI now produces twenty events each season; manages its compact disc label, XI; develops and implements international projects in collaboration with similar organizations in Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany and Portugal among other countries.

During the concert celebration, Pimenta will play a piece entitled "BHLEG", a name extracted from a pre-historical word that is the root of the word "flute". Composed in 2004, it is a concert for transversal flute, digital systems and virtual reality. Also to be performed is "SETI", which, composed in 2002, is music of extraterrestrial sounds captured by astronomical observatories and "YARNAM", which was composed in 2001. Each of the pieces also include computer art projection.

During the week long event taking place from December 15 to 21, 2003, the Experimental Intermedia Foundation will host a series of concerts by Kaffe Matthews, Peter Zummo, Tom Hamilton, Mary Jane Leach, David Behrman, Thomas Buckner, Ralph Samuelson, Eric Barsness, Okkyung Lee and Phill Niblock.
