Your Backyard Can Enhance Your Children's Academic & Emotional Growth

Entice your family to spend more time outdoors by creating a better backyard. With just a little creativity, nearly any outdoor area can be transformed into a relaxing and stimulating atmosphere that can be made accessible to children for much needed outdoor time.

New Market, VA (PRWEB) May 7, 2008 -- With the long awaited emergence of spring, Adriana Copaceanu is pleased to announce the launch of her new website Better Backyards: http://www.betterbackyards.com.

Her website will assist home owners in creating a backyard space that will entice their family to spend more time outdoors.

A green lawn and a few flowers can be a good start, but there's so much more to be gained by designing a tranquil backyard environment for your family. In fact, author Richard Louv's new book, Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder, discusses how the lack of outdoor time can actually have a negative effect on children. Through his years of research, travel, and talking with kids, Richard has come to conclusion that the absence of nature in children's lives can coincide with the problems they face, such as obesity, attention disorders, depression and stress.

Martha Erickson, Ph.D., a children's mental health expert and senior fellow and professor at the University of Minnesota tells USA Weekend, "Although we don't yet have a wealth of rigorous, controlled studies that allow us to make a definitive statement about cause and effect, we do have a variety of studies that collectively point to an association between outdoor play and an array of good outcomes for kids."

Busy lives and the lack of a readily available natural environment can make it difficult for families to get outside as much as they should. But with a little creativity, nearly any outdoor area can be transformed into a relaxing and stimulating atmosphere that can be made accessible to children for much needed outdoor time.

As winter makes its retreat, Adriana encourages parents to start planning and preparing their own backyards for spring. For more information on how to get started, visit http://www.betterbackyards.com
