Mayoral Race South Miami: Website Important Even in Municipal Elections

South Miami's Vice Mayor, Mary Scott Russell is runnning for Mayor and her web site is already attracting 500 requests a day.

Miami, FL (PRWEB) December 15, 2003 -- It's worked for Dean and for Bush/Cheney, as a way to raise funds and is now a must for national election. But websites have never really been tried at the local municipal level. Now an innovative candidate, Vice Mayor Mary Scott Russell, is using her web site to attract up to 500 visitors daily in her race for Mayor of South Miami.

"Voters in municipal elections need contact with their representatives far more than in National elections," says Henry Morgenstern, the site's web master. "There are a lot of micro-issues that effect people's day-to-day lives. Mary Scott Russell has been attentive to voter needs since she was first elected as a commissioner over five years ago and the web site is a continuation of her most basic policy."

On the site, voters may read all about the candidate but also express their own opinions through interactive forms, as well as make contributions or contact the candidate directly.

With the websites now being used in municipal elections as a vital fund-raising tool and electoral asset, the trend that began in 2000 has come right down to the muncipal level establishing a good website as a prerequisite of any election.
