WANTAGH, NY (PRWEB) December 16, 2003

Fancy Pants Recording artist Greener offers rewards to their fans that share their songs by using a new file sharing technology called Weed™.

Weed™ is an innovative and simple application that utilizes Microsoft’s® Digital Rights Management (DRM) to secure digital content while rewarding music fans for sharing.

Weed™ files can be played three times for free on any PC. After three free plays, greener’s fans are asked to pay for the file. Any current Windows Media-compatible player software can be used to play the file. The Weed software is used to purchase it.

Once a Weed file is purchased, greener’s fans are free to play it all they want on up to three PCs. They can also burn the Weed™ files they buy to CD and play them on their stereo, or transfer them to portable devices, like the Creative Labs® Nomad, the RIO® S10, or any current Windows CE® PDA.

The Weed files can be shared with anyone greener’s fans like, as long as the files remain in their original form as Windows Media files.

If someone a Greener fan shares a file with purchases that file, they'll earn a payment for helping to distribute it.

Greener will receive 50% of each sale, and the rest goes to those who helped distribute the file. The first person gets 20%, the person who shares the file with the first person gets 10%, and the third person that shares the file with the second person gets 5% of the sale price. Weed collects 15%.

“When we released our CD, ‘Weekend Thriller’, we were looking for a way to distribute our music to as many people as possible but also to sell some of it along the way. With the way the [music] industry currently is it seemed to be a daunting task but I think since Weed’s™ system rewards those that respect artist rights while giving the artist their fair share, this new way of distribution will work.” - Greener’s Jason Cohen

The perplexing problem of illegal file sharing has put Major Record Labels and the RIAA at odds with music fans for the last few years. Weed’s™ software may hold the solution by allowing artists like Greener to reward their fans for respecting their copyrights.
