This year marks the 12th Anniversary of the National Safety Month campaign which has adopted the theme "Make A Difference." According to the National Safety Council, Nine out of 10 accidental fatalities and two-thirds of disabling injuries to workers occur off the job. In 2005, more than 60 percent of all accidental deaths involved either workers who were off the job or their family members. In 2006, there were over 120,000,000 unintentional injuries of which 26,200,000 were disabling. In that same year, for every 100,000 people, there were 40.1 unintentional deaths. 44,700,000 injures were a result of motor-vehicle accidents, which continues to be the number one cause of unintentional deaths in the United States.
