The Colors of Spring egg hunt at Lake Chabot Golf Course will be held on Saturday, April 23rd, 2011 from 8:30 am until noon.

Just above Oakland’s celebrated zoo, Lake Chabot Golf Course is one of the East Bay’s natural treasures. It’s also the perfect location for an old-fashioned Easter egg hunt. Now in its fifth year, the 2011 Oakland City-Wide Spring Egg hunt, this year called “The Colors of Spring,” is sponsored by the Oakland Office of Parks and Recreation and the Lake Chabot Golf Course. The grounds are open to families on Saturday, April 23rd from 8:30 am until noon. In addition to the egg hunt, there will be other activities including face painting and free golf clinics.

“We are proud to have this tremendous event return to our grounds this year,” said James Birchall, General Manager of Lake Chabot Golf Course. “Not only do the kids and their parents get to participate in this beloved spring ritual of egg hunting, they also get to see the exciting world of golf up close.”

Onsite registration begins at 8:30 am and the egg hunt starts promptly at 9:30 am for kids seven and older and 9:45 am for kids six and younger. Michelle Doppelt, Recreation Supervisor at the Dimond Recreation Center and Park, says all kids should bring their own baskets and reminds adults that—while it’s fun for everyone to pick up the eggs—only children should participate.

If all the Easter activities aren’t enough, the skilled staff and volunteers of Lake Chabot Golf Course are offering golf clinics for youth and adults at 10:00 and 11:00 am, after the completion of the egg hunts and signing a waiver.

“The Oakland Parks and Recreation Department cordially invites your entire family to join us at this wonderful venue for a morning of egg hunting, face painting, and other arts and crafts,” says Doppelt. “Come out and play with a purpose!”
