Steve DeAngelo and Andrew DeAngelo operate the largest medical marijuana dispensary in the country, Harborside Health Center—the subject of the new 4-part reality show “Weed Wars,” which airs on the Discovery Channel Thursday nights at 10 pm. On Tuesday, December 6, Steve DeAngelo will appear as guest on The Early Show on CBS and Dr. Drew on HLN/CNN.
The premier of Discovery Channel's latest reality series "Weed Wars” last week gave non-medical-marijuana-cardholders their first up-close-and-personal tour of a medical marijuana dispensary—in fact the nation’s largest medical marijuana dispensary, Harborside Health Center.
“Weed Wars” is receiving high marks from critics. A/V Club called it “compelling television,” while Salon wrote that “on Weed Wars drug clichés go up in smoke.” The San Francisco Chronicle reported that “Weed Wars is already reaching new audiences.”
Media Life hit the nail on the head by noting: “Most reality shows about workplaces feature relatively normal people trying to appear colorful and eccentric while handling trivial or manufactured crises. Discovery's new series ‘Weed Wars’ features colorful and eccentric people trying to appear relatively normal while handling real crises.”
The series, which airs on Discovery Channel on Thursday nights at 10 pm, follows the DeAngelo family and Harborside’s staff as they fearlessly wrestle with the complex issues they face every day. The series accurately captures the real-life drama and high stakes of the California voter approved business as federal agencies make increasingly harsher threats and IRS audits attempt to shut down the Oakland cannabis dispensary.
In addition to focusing on Steve DeAngelo, his family and the staff, “Weed Wars” follows the journey of the plant itself from seed germination to harvesting. Audiences will meet the growers and “patient farmers” whose job it is to provide the “medicine” that will be eventually purchased and used by thousands of clients, many of whom feel their lives have been forever changed by the plant.
