Second Website Team Goes Live In Greater Accra Region

Internet start-up, 10KWEB, is pleased to announce a team has gone live in the region of Greater Accra in the African country of Ghana. This marks the second 10KWEB team in Ghana after the city of Takoradi.

Greater Accra is the smallest of the regions within Ghana, covering only one point four per cent of the country’s total area but is considered the most populous. A 2000 census reported a population of over two point three million people, accounting for over fifteen per cent of Ghana’s total population.

Greater Accra relies primarily on wholesale and retail trade as its main business. Following that, manufacturing is the next largest with agriculture, hunting, forestry and fishing industries making up the next group. Thirty-nine per cent of the female population works in wholesale and retail while only twenty-two per cent of males work in the same industries. Females are three times more likely than males to work in hotels and restaurants. In addition, more than half of the working population is self-employed without employees. And of that number, sixty-two per cent of females are self employed.

10KWEB Co-Founder, Anthony Martins, sees this figure as a growing trend around the world, saying, “Greater Accra is an example of future small business owners around the world. They work for themselves, setting their own plan and goals. They try to set themselves apart from other small businesses. And that’s where 10KWEB comes in; offering them the means to not only set the standard but also expand their business on a global scale.”

10KWEB was created January 2012 by Anthony Martins and Thomas Bang as an online resource for aspiring blog writers and small business owners. Their website launched on March 5th, 2012 and is currently used in the United States, Mexico, Great Britain, Germany, China, Morocco, Trinidad, Italy and New Zealand with more markets in development.
