Student Talent Awarded in Video Contest Held by Online Printer 123Print.com

123Print.com announces the winners of its second semi-annual project and contest with an advertising class at the University of Florida. Focusing on creation of promotional videos, the project and contest brought the exceptional work of two students in particular to light.

Frederick, MD (PRWEB) June 29, 2009 -- Sometimes fresh ideas and bright talent come out of nowhere when you least expect them. That's exactly what happened when online printer 123Print.com held its second semi-annual project and contest with students in a class at the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications. With nearly forty entries marketing and communications staff at 123Print knew they would find some interesting material. What they didn't expect to find were two stand-out entries worthy of further exploration.

Having worked with the same University of Florida class on evolving marketing and promotion projects and contests since the fall of 2008; 123Print's sights were set on the viral potential of video and the power of video sharing site YouTube for the spring 2009 semester. Students were instructed to get to know 123Print.com as a brand and become familiar with the process of ordering personalized printed products for home and business including business cards, invitations, greeting cards, stationery, and marketing materials. Creation of an original video capturing their vision of 123Print's essence in a way that would appeal to their friends and family was the final output of each student's entry.

Qualifying videos were monitored for traffic driven to 123Print.com and analyzed for view count and popularity rating on YouTube as well as overall creativity. Six cash prizes totaling $900 were available to participants based on those criteria. Award winners included: Brittany Rouille and Nicole Fischer - First Place Traffic Award; Debbie Campbell - Second Place Traffic Award; Ashley Chazal and Elaine DeIorio - Highest YouTube Rating; Michael Cheng - Most Creative and Tom Gibbs - Third Place Traffic Award and Most YouTube views.

"All of the entries captured part of what 123Print is all about and presented it in a compelling way," said 123Print General Manager John Jenner, adding "but even out of those that won awards, two particular entries really stood out. Those two entries were Tom Gibbs' Card Making Magic and Michael Cheng's What Will Your Card Say About You." Both videos do a tremendous job of capturing both viewers' attention and the essence of 123Print's core message of uniqueness, ease and value.

Employing a stop-motion technique that "claymation" fans will recognize, Gibbs' Card Making Magic utilizes an army of office, craft and art supplies to create a Rube Goldberg-type machine illustrating the effort needed to create a 123Print invitation without the help of the site's easy-to-use templates and online design tools. The stop-motion technique not only grabs your attention as something unique, it makes you want to see what's next and more about the company behind it.

Following a more traditional commercial-style approach, Cheng's What Will Your Card Say About You uses subtle humor and history to take a tongue-in-cheek look at what the business cards of famous figures throughout time would say about them. Playing off of facts and legends related to each figure, Cheng's video does an excellent job of conveying 123Print's message of using print to create and promote your uniqueness. Because each example gets progressively funnier and more interesting, you want to keep watching right until the end when you learn about 123Print.

"On behalf of everyone here at 123Print, I'd like to thank all of the students who participated in the video project and contest and congratulate the prize winners," Jenner said, continuing, "It was interesting to see the different approaches. As a forward-thinking e-commerce company, we're always interested in the way different audiences see 123Print - this was a refreshing and fun experience."
