No Limit Agency Hires Mark Brandau as Managing Editor of 1851 Magazine

Veteran journalist joins company from business journal Nation’s Restaurant News.

No Limit Agency, a hybrid communications agency specializing in public relations, marketing and social media, has named Mark Brandau to the newly created position of Managing Editor, overseeing daily editorial duties for 1851 Magazine.

In addition to bolstering the editorial coverage for 1851 Magazine, Brandau will help direct the content for No Limit Agency, from story generation on behalf of the company’s franchise clients to editing internal and outbound communications for those brands.

“Over the past two years, we have worked to perfect a magazine model that provides content yet helps businesses target their ideal candidates through our new tools that will be launched later this year,” said Nick Powills, Publisher of 1851 and Chief Brand Strategist of No Limit Agency. “Mark will add a new dynamic to our publication. With his wealth of experience, our content will continue to advance.”

Previously, Brandau spent the entirety of his media career with Nation’s Restaurant News, a business-to-business journal covering the restaurant and foodservice industry. His tenure with NRN began in 2005 in New York, where he was responsible for copy editing and designing pages for the print magazine. He transitioned to a reporting role in 2008, taking over NRN’s coverage of restaurant marketing and advertising. In 2009, he moved to the magazine’s Chicago office to run the Midwest bureau, covering the region’s largest restaurant companies, including Yum! Brands Inc., McDonald’s Corp., and Domino’s Pizza Inc.

“My career with Nation’s Restaurant News was a master class in the right way to learn about an industry, prioritize ideas and content, and communicate effectively,” Brandau said. “I could not be more excited in my new role with the agency and 1851 Magazine to take that experience and start applying it to all of franchising, which spans so many industries. Brandau earned a bachelor of science in journalism degree from the Medill School of Journalism, Media, and Integrated Marketing Communications at Northwestern University and a master of science in journalism from Columbia University. He also currently serves as an adjunct lecturer of magazine journalism at Northwestern.
