METROLINK PROM TRAIN TO CARRY 650 PALMDALE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
Southern Californias Newest Way to Get to the Prom
LOS ANGELES, CA, FRIDAY, APRIL 30, 1999: More than 625 Palmdale High School students and chaperones dressed in formal wear will board a late-afternoon Metrolink train on Saturday, May 1 from the Lancaster Station, destined for Los Angeles. The Palmdale High Junior/Senior Prom will be at the Hotel Inter-Continental in downtown Los Angeles.
These kids are riding aboard a 770-foot stretch limo when they ride Metrolink to the prom," said James Ledford, Metrolink Board member and Palmdale Mayor. Parents can rest assured that their kids will have a safe trip down-the-hill and back."
Students will depart from Metrolink Lancaster Station at 4 p.m. and arrive at Los Angeles Union Station at 5:35 p.m. The high school has chartered five buses to take the students from Union Station to the Hotel Inter-Continental. The train will return early Sunday morning, departing Los Angeles Union Station at 1 a.m. and arriving in Lancaster at 2:30 a.m.
The Metrolink Palmdale Prom Special train will consist of six passenger cars and two locomotives. The trip length is roughly 77 miles and takes about an hour and a half each way.
