Vance Thompson, Shade Street's owner and founder, resides in Chicago, IL and is an award winning jazz trumpeter, composer and arranger. Thompson started the ezine to offer a musician's perspective on the
jazz scene today, and to provide other musicians an opportunity to gain global exposure.
"I've always been fascinated with the idea of the internet," said Thompson. "It makes independent music promotion a much more feasible alternative. Musicians know that there's a lot of undiscovered talent out there. With the development of technology
today, we have the opportunity to create forums from which new voices can be heard."
Founded in February 1999, Shade Street is a web based publisher of original music for small and large jazz ensembles. The site also promotes a small number of independently produced CD's. Peter Ballin, Thomas Matta, Ron Perrillo, Vance Thompson, and Dan Trudell are among the artists whose work is featured.
